These will be our last meal until fall and then we will start the program up again. Watch for information in the August ULC Newsletter! Today’s meal is Lasagna. A word of thanks to all those who worked together to provide shelter and food for people stranded in Lake Lillian due to the blizzard of Feb. 23-24, 2019. Special thanks to Wendy Lund, who opened up the church and provided hospitality. The comments from people in the morning included: “The warmth and hospitality offered was more than we ever expected or imagined”; “a true sanctuary in every sense of the word”; “we really appreciate all this village and church did when we were caught in a storm”. Thank you, Pastor LaDonna. And about a week later, a thank you card with a $100 check made out to ULC came in the mail saying:
“Dear friends at Lake Lillian Church, We truly felt the presence of God in your generosity toward us Sunday night. We were cold, tired, and hungry – you fed us, provided blankets, and offered us the best, warmest room in your lovely church for our slumber. The sandwiches and cookies, the coffee and banana bread were much appreciated. Most importantly to us, you made it clear to us that we were welcome, and you rejoiced in our safe arrival. Thank you for your kindness! We enclosed a small donation that we hope will be of use as you continue your good and important ministry of welcoming the stranger. Gratefully, George, Jacki, Sophie, & Matthias.

Your thoughtfulness is a reflection of God’s love. Pastor LaDonna, Thank you so much for all your help while we didn’t have a place to go to because of our house fire. We appreciate everything. Pastor LaDonna and United Lutheran Church: Your thoughtfulness meant much more than any words can say. Thank you very much. Bryan and Likki Roush.

Good Morning, My name is Carol Zenner and I wanted to thank you for the wonderful hospitality showed and shared with me on the evening of Feb. 26th. I was driving from South Dakota after spending a couple of days with my son who attends SDSU in Brookings. It was time to get back to Eagan by Sunday evening so I could get to work on Monday. Traveling wind and gusts and blowing snow creating drifts was less than desirable but I was optimistic if I traveled slowly, I would make it home. That all changed when I found myself stopped on the highway behind cars and a couple of semi-trucks that were not moving. I was still able to turn around on the highway and a gentleman told me he was heading back to the next town back, Lake Lillian.
When I drove into town I remember seeing a sign welcoming visitors with the word “friendly”, which turned out to be the perfect adjective to describe the people I encountered. Thanks to everyone for opening up the church. Thank you for feeding me (and several others). Thank you for the pillows and quilts, for the restrooms and sink to brush my teeth. Thank you for the cushions from the church to sleep on.
Your church was my sanctuary. I felt the presence of Jesus in everyone I came in contact with. Thank you for the kindness and love showed and for working so hard to keep me comfortable. Thank you Pastor LaDonna, Mayor Wendy/husband Dave (to name a few). Thank you to the kind sweet person who made hotdogs and for bringing my money to the convenience store when I had forgotten to pay for gas.
Words cannot express my feelings of gratitude. Thank you for every-thing done to keep me safe and comfortable. Your kindness will never be forgotten. Sincerely and Gratefully, Carol Zenner
