We are a Christian Family, centered on God's Word, whose mission is to share his Love and Grace through Worship, Education, and response to Human need.
Who we are: Family
We are the United Lutheran Church of Lake Lillian. We are truly a family of believers brought together to serve our Lord through the marriage of the First and Grace Lutheran congregations. We gather together according to our traditions passed down from the family of believers who have gone before us and who have entrusted us to carry on the legacy of our heritage of faith.
We believe as they did, that family is more than people sharing the same house and bloodlines. It is where we grow up, learn, support, care for, teach, and love one another. We need each other as much as we need God's wisdom and strength to live out our lives as God's people. Our heritage and our history is not only our past, it is our present and our future. It is what we wish for our own children as much as they wished this for us.
Why we are: Centered on God's Word
We are here today because our ancestors through faith – sacrifice – courage – adversity – vision and the work of the Holy Spirit, built out of the wilderness, this community of faith we enjoy and flourish in. We share a common history and a common vision to bring the Word of God to this community and to the world beyond our city, state and country's boundaries. Through God's Word we are gathered together to be more than what we could ever be or accomplish alone.
What we do: Share His Love and Grace
All we have comes from the Father. We are blessed with work, family, friends, income, possessions, skills, talents, faith, and hope. Just as much as these things are our gifts from the Father, they are ours to share with those around us so that we too are the blessing to others as much as we have been blessed.
How we do it: Worship
We are renewed and strengthened and prepared to live out our mission and ministry every Sunday morning as we gather together to understand God's Word through a variety of liturgy and worship formats, children and adult choirs, member involvement and responsibility.
How we do it: Education
Sunday School, Adult Sunday Education, Confirmation, Mission Trips, Vacation Bible School, Circles, Units, Men's Breakfast, Bible Studies, and a variety of fellowship events.
How we do it: Response to Human Need
Senior Companionship Program, LALM, Lutheran World Relief, Heifer Project International, Kids Against Hunger, Quilting, Health Kits & School Kits, Christian Youth Ministry in Olivia, Lutheran Social Services, Prisoners of Hope, Green Lake Lutheran Ministries, Rice Hospital Chaplaincy, Synod Mission Offerings, Salvation Army Angel Tree, Battered Women's Shelter,
Where and When we do it: Everywhere and Everyday – Past – Present - Future
We accomplish our work of spreading the gospel in many ways and in many places. Our ancestors felt the need to facilitate the mission of God's work through the facility of a common building. To gather together in the house of our Lord to support and care for the family of Christians that to this day continue to spread the gospel. First in two separate Church Buildings located in our rural communities before the establishment of the City of Lake Lillian, and now, in one facility within the community of Lake Lillian.
The building project was developed and construction began in 2009. This $880,000 building project gave us a new fellowship hall and Kitchen, new onsite office space for the pastor and office manager, an expanded Narthex and handicap accessibility. Due to a very successful capital campaign we currently have less than $80,000 remaining on the mortgage for this project. There are also some current plans to do some sanctuary updates with this project starting in May of this 2014.
From the foundation and faith in the formation of two immigrant congregations in the 1800's in rural Minnesota, to the migration into the small rural town of Lake Lillian, to the formation of our two-point parish, to the consolidation into the United Lutheran Church of Lake Lillian, we have been blessed, guided, encouraged and re-energized by the Spirit to actively pursue God's will and to share His love and grace through worship, education, and response to human need. This is our mission. This is God's work and our hands.
